Humber Curlers and Associates,

Sadly, I see many leaves falling on the lawn and on the golf courses, making it difficult in finding your golf balls.  Fortunately, the curling ice is ready, very keen and awaiting our imminent return!

We had a wonderful turnout last Wednesday at our open house and practise day.  Many of our newest members were there for the very first time!

I would like all of you to join with our executive, in welcoming our newest curlers and also helping them with any questions and concerns that they may have about this great game!

Our newest members are:  Bruno Aldini, Greg Belbin, Peter Broad, Paul Collins, Jamie Reilly, Joanne Reilly, Gabriele Rucchetto.

Also returning members and associates: Isidore Germain, Bruce Wither, Gary Halpenny, Robert Hazlett, Dave Irwin, Angus Warren, Virginia Warren.

We wish you all a very enjoyable curling season with us!

Hopefully these items below will help answer some of your questions but do not hesitate to reach out to your skip or teammates should you have any other questions!  They will be more than happy to assist you!

Opening Day

Our first official day of curling will commence on Wednesday, Oct. 11th games start promptly at 9:30 AM.  We would like to see everyone arrive by 9:00 AM in order to ensure that you have time to prepare for the game.

Daily announcements starting at 9:15 AM each morning, so please be ready to go by that time!  Extra spares can just show up for a game or to use a spare sheet of ice!

No Change Room Facilities

A reminder that you should come dressed to curl as there are no change rooms available to our group.  You should only need to change into your clean shoes which you plan on using on the ice.  Street shoes should never be used on the ice!  We can assist the new curlers with some temporary loaner equipment for a few weeks until you decide what you will need going forward!

Humber House League Mornings

Humber has access to the ice each morning on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays as indicated on the schedule.  There will be some exception dates which will be excluded from the schedule.  We will attempt to remind everyone during announcements.

The club schedule can be found here: Monthly Schedule All club events and playing dates are indicated on the schedule.

Dress Code

A reminder that we are guests at a private country club and we must adhere to all the rules of the club including dress code.  Your curling gear is appropriate attire but jeans are not allowed at any time!  Cellphone use is also restricted to certain areas only!  If you have any questions, please speak to any of the executive members for clarification.  We also, do not have any other privileges at the club, other than the ice rental and use of the lounge before and after each game.

You have each been assigned to a team on the days for which you registered.  When you find your name on say Monday, Wednesday or Friday, then that is your team on that day each week for the Fall Series (six weeks).  The team-name is always the surname of the skip for the team.

  • The skip is your contact should you have any issues or problems.
  • You are expected to play on each day of the schedule, if you are assigned to a team.
  • It is your responsibility to find a suitable spare if you are not able to make a specific game.
  • Notify your skip by email (the name of your replacement on a given day) or if you are having trouble finding a spare! The contact info for the skip is indicated in each of the team lists above. Note: You may need to login to the IO site to see the members contact info.  Once you are logged in, stay logged in order to cycle thought all of the other info!

Curling Clinics

Our Fall Series Clinics will run each Friday starting on: Oct. 13 and continue through Oct. 20, 27, Nov. 03, 10 & 17th.  John Rudd will conduct these coaching clinics on sheets 1 & 2.  He can address any questions or concerns that you may have at the clinic.  He is currently on vacation but will be on hand on Oct. 13th.

House League will be played at the same time on sheets 3,4,5 & 6 from 9:30 – 11:30 AM.

Sheets 1 & 2 will be available each Friday for practise from 9:30 – 10:30 AM.

Clinics will begin at 10:30 and finish at 11:30 AM.

Practise Ice

A minimum of one sheet of ice will be available each Mon & Wed. From 9:30 – 11:30 AM and also Fridays, from 9:30 – 10:30 AM

Spares or teams on a bye are welcome and encouraged to come out each morning to either practise or spare for a team that may be short a player!

Additional players are needed as spares and regulars specifically for the Monday Afternoon 1 PM Inter-club matches with the Mississaugua Senior Men’s League and also Wednesday afternoons at Mississaugua 1 PM and Dixie 12:30 PM.  Please reply to this email if you can help out as a regular or as a spare.  If you need more info, please speak to us at one of the Morning games!

Arrival Each Day

When you arrive each day your assigned sheet of ice is indicated at the main counter.  Your skips name and your opponents will be indicated on a specific sheet of ice.  The sheet of ice also correlates to a specific table.  Go to that table where you will meet your teammates and opponents prior to each game.  You will have time to socialize and/or ask any questions of your teammates.
